Week Two Beasts and Busts: 2009-10 NFL Season

September 17th, 2009 · No Comments

Minnesota Vikings Running Back Adrian Peterson

The VFFP Crew is back at their home base after a great weekend in Las Vegas at the World Championship of Fantasy Football. If you are a Fantasy Fanatic, the WCOFF event is definitely an event you don’t want to miss.

It was held at the MGM Grand, where we took the time to enjoy the sun at poolside. Jill, Dustin, Jessie and the entire WCOFF crew were great hosts and we thank them for a fabulous weekend.

Week One of Fantasy Football was filled with surprises as studs turned to duds and scoring was down across the board. This is traditionally the case as players try to get in sync and get their legs under them in Week One.

Doesn’t matter who is under center for the Chiefs.

FANTASY FACTS

In two games against the Lions in 2008, Vikings RB Adrian Peterson had just 226 total yards and no touchdowns. Expect him to match his 2008 combined total yards and get into the end zone twice in this weekends game against Detroit.

Without QB Tom Brady under center in 2008 TE Benjamin Watson had a total of 22 catches for 206 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 14 games. In Week One Watson had six receptions for 77 yards and scored twice.

The Rams surrendered 131.6 Fantasy points to the Seahawks in Week One. The Seahawks managed just 1,214 total Fantasy points in all of 2008.

The Saints lead all teams in Fantasy scoring in Week One with 171.3 total points. At the other end of the spectrum, the Panthers registered just 54.3 total Fantasy points.

The Saints 171.3 Fantasy points in Week One was more than the Texans, Panthers and Rams combined total of 166.3 total Fantasy points.

Last week we said Terrell Owens days of being a Fantasy Stud are slowly becoming a thing of the past. T.O. caught two passes for 46 yards and 6.6 Fantasy points. Expect a much better week out of Owens in Week Two but it will be hit or miss all season for the former Fantasy Stud.

The Patriots WR Randy Moss and Wes Welker combined for 24 catches and 234 receiving yards in Week One. 18 teams had less than 234 total receiving yards and 23 teams had less than 24 total receptions.

The Vikings Adrian Peterson rushed for 180 yards in Week One. Only the Ravens (198), Jets (190) and Eagles (185) had more combined total rushing yards than AP.

More amazing than that is the fact that the Texans (38), Steelers (36), Lions (33), Chiefs (29) and the 49ers managed a combined 157 total rushing yards.

The top ten Tight Ends combined for 57 catches, 795 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in Week One.

David Garrard, Brett Favre, Donovan McNabb and Jake Delhomme combined for 45 completions and 384 pass yards. Patriots QB Tom Brady had 39 completions and 378 pass yards.

The Chiefs and Lions both surrendered over 501 total yards on defense with 501 and 515 respectively.

The Buccaneers defense allowed the Cowboys 8.9 yards per play on their 52 plays from scrimmage.

FANTASY FACTOR

A mismatch of Fantasy Beasts versus Fantasy Busts goes a long way to deciding the outcome of NFL games. If you wager on the outcome of games, you need to consider the Fantasy Factor.

B: Bad: This is not a good game to select a winner from based on the Fantasy Factor. You may want to stay away from this game.

M: Middle: This is a decent game to select a winner from based on Fantasy Factor. Consider all the facts before picking a winner here.

E: Excellent: This is an excellent game to select a winner from based on our Fantasy Factor. Load up and enjoy!!!
