Week Ten Beasts and Busts: 2009-10 NFL Season

November 11th, 2009 · No Comments

New Orleans Saints Running Back Pierre Thomas

Welcome to our Week 10 Beast, Busts and Sleepers. In this feature we try to dig deep and look beyond the obvious. We look for players that may produce over their heads as our Beasts. We look for players who may underachieve as our Busts. We look for players who could surprise as our Sleepers.

THE CRITERIA

QB: 20 FP or more = Beast
RB/WR: 15 FP or more = Beast
TE/PK/DST: 10 FP or more = Beast

RECORD BY CATEGORY

Beasts: 42-39
Busts: 50-31
Sleepers: 19-50

Our Sleepers picks aren’t waking up and they are bringing down our over all record big time! Let’s take a look at Week 10 and see if we can turn that trend around.

THE BEASTS
Beyond the obvious:

QB: Brett Favre MIN vs DET - If he plays the whole game, expect his best game of the season here.

QB: Tony Romo DAL at GB - In his first NFL start, TB QB Josh Freeman posted 21.2 FP against GB.

RB: Pierre Thomas NO at STL - Thomas will get a workout, may top his Week 3 season high 24.6 FP.

RB: Ronnie Brown MIA vs TB - The Bucs are giving up 163.4 rush YD PG. Fins will run early and often.

WR: T.J. Houshmandzedah SEA at ARI - TJ finally got the attention of Matt Hasselbeck, shoot out in the desert.

WR: Calvin Johnson DET at MIN - The Lions will be playing from behind and will need to air it out.

TE: Jason Witten DAL at GB - Witten breaks out here; finally plays like the high end TE1 he is.

PK: Jay Feely NYJ vs JAC - The Jets will move the ball. Feely will get a lot of chances in this one.

DST: Broncos at Redskins - The Broncos will rebound nicely against a banged up Redskins offense.

THE BUSTS
Studs to Duds:

QB: David Garrard JAC at NYJ - Garrard averages 24.2 FP at home and just 11.45 FP on the road.

QB: Joe Flacco BAL at CLE - Match up looks good but the Ravens will run all day in this one.

RB: Joseph Addai IND vs NE - D. Brown will steal some touches and the Pats are stiff against the run.

RB: Kevin Smith DET at MIN - Vikings have allowed two rushing TD; both of them went to Ray Rice.

WR: Donald Driver GB vs DAL - Cowboys have not allowed a 100-yard WR since Week 2 vs the Giants.

WR: Mike Sims-Walker JAC at NYJ - The Jets are allowing a league low 12 FP per game to the WR position.

TE: Fred Davis WAS VS DEN - The Broncos have allowed 3.4 FP per game (1 TD) to the TE position.

PK: Josh Brown STL vs NO - It’s back to reality for Brown and the Rams against the Saints.

DST: Seahawks at Cardinals - Seahawks DST goes from 18 FP in Week 9 to three FP in Week 10.

THE SLEEPERS:
Underachievers with a chance to shine:

QB: Mark Sanchez NYJ vs JAC - Bye Week came at a perfect time for Sanchez and WR Cotchery.

RB: Ladell Betts WAS vs DEN - Betts is fresher, faster and healthier Clinton Portis who may not play.

RB: Jamaal Charles KC at OAK - We’ll go back to this well once more. The Raiders can’t stop the run.

WR: Jerricho Cotchery NYJ vs JAC - Cotchery is healthy and gets the Jags horrible pass defense at home.

WR: Greg Camarillo MIA at TB - Camarillo is a possession receiver and is gaining the trust of Henne.

TE: Todd Heap BAL vs CLE - Expect Heap to be busy the few times the Ravens take to the air.

PK: Steven Hauschka BAL vs CLE - The Ravens will score early and often; Hauschka will bounce back.

DST: Dolphins vs Bucs - The Bucs will be a launching pad for a DST turn around in Miami.

FANTASY FACTS:

Mid-Season Studs, Duds and Surprises.

Despite being sacked 37 times in eight games, QB Aaron Rodgers is the top OA FP producer with 207 FP. After posting 303.5 FP in 2008, Donovan McNabb has 113.2 FP in 2009. Ben Roethlisberger (178 FP) had 112 FP after eight games in 2008.

RB Ray Rice produced 105.7 FP in 2008. He currently has 182.9 FP. Matt Forte (118 FP) needs to average 23.6 FP a week to match his 2008 total of 306.5 FP. His current average is 14.75. Cedric Benson (136.3 FP) has already surpassed his 125.5 FP total from 2008.

WR Vincent Jackson (155.8 FP) needs 62 FP to surpass the 217.7 FP he scored in 2008. Greg Jennings (97.8 FP) needs 167.7 FP to match his 265.5 FP total from 2008. Austin Miles (131.3 FP) has 112.4 FP in his last four games and ranks 12th OA at the WR position.

TE Dallas Clark (149 FP) is 48.4 FP away from his career high of 197.8 FP scored in 2008. Jason Witten (89.10 FP) will need a strong second half to match his 202.3 FP total from 2008. Brent Celek (112.6 FP) has almost doubled the 64.8 FP he scored in 2008.

PK David Akers (88.7 FP) is averaging 11.9 FP per game. That is the highest average this decade. John Kasey (44.9 FP) needs 106.9 FP to match the 151.8 FP he scored in 2008. After playing just one game in 2008, Lawrence Tynes leads all PK with 91.5 FP in 2009.

The Saints DST managed just 95 FP in 2008. In just eight games this season, they have 111 FP. The Jets (51 FP – 27th OA) will need 87 FP to match the 138 FP (5th OA) they scored in 2008. The Broncos were ranked last with 64 FP in 2008. They have 77 FP in 2009.

FANTASY FACTOR:

The Fantasy Factor took a tumble to 8-5 in Week 9 bringing our overall record to 88-41. The Packers, Ravens, Bears, Giants and Eagles all let us down in a week dominated by the Dogs. Each of those teams closed as the odds maker favorites in Week 9 and they all lost outright. The Dogs went 10-3 in Week 9. Lets get back on track in Week 10!

A mismatch of Fantasy Beasts versus Fantasy Busts goes a long way to deciding the outcome of NFL games. If you wager on the outcome of games, especially on the Money Line, you need to consider the Fantasy Factor.

B: Bad Bet (14-19): These are not good games to select a winner from based on the Fantasy Factor. You should stay away from these games.

M: Middle Bet (31-13): These are decent games to select a winner from based on the Fantasy Factor. You should still consider all the facts before picking from these games.

E: Excellent Bet (43-9): These are excellent games to select a winner from based on the Fantasy Factor. Load up and enjoy!!!
